What we do
Charism Consultants provides training and consultancy services for health and social care providers in both the public and private sectors. We focus on The Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), Liberty Protections Safeguards (LPS), The Mental Health Act and Safeguarding Adults.
We work with Social Workers, Doctors, Nurses, Dentists and Dental Practices, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, CCGs, Care Homes, Nursing Homes, Supported Living Providers, Mental Health Trusts and Charities. If you work with someone who has dementia, a learning disability, a stroke or mental health needs, or anyone who might be unable to consent to some aspects of their care or treatment, you must understand how to use the Mental Capacity Act.
All our courses are tailored to our clients’ needs and the needs of those they work with. We provide on site training to ensure minimum disruption for providers. We ensure complex information is made simple and accessible. We provide specialist expert training on the MCA and DoLS with courses at all levels and across disciplines.
Who we are
Elizabeth Bano MA Having accepted an invitation to become Head of Communications for a leading faith-based charity, Liz developed a special interest in safeguarding the rights of service-users who lack mental capacity. This led her to study for a postgraduate degree in Bioethics, researching the ethical, medical and legal issues surrounding personal autonomy in client and patient care with a focus on the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. She is now an occasional lecturer at St Mary’s University. Liz’s academic research and her extensive experience in delivering training at all levels – from care workers to senior managers and Trustees – led to the development of her distinctive values-based and person-centred approach to health and social care training. More recently she has been working on a co production model of engagement with the Mental Capacity Act. She has worked with local authorities, the NHS, dental practices, private care homes, private practitioners and faith-based organisations. Liz has developed a range of courses on The Mental Capacity Act and DoLS to reflect the wide variety of service users, professionals and carers who are affected by the legislation. Liz has also developed programmes to re-engage staff with the core values of their profession and enable them to improve care delivery for vulnerable adults. Liz draws on the support of a team of specialist associates in areas such as law, mental health and dementia to ensure that the training provided by Charism Consultants is always authoritative, up to date and specifically tailored to meet the needs of its clients.Liz’s communication and training skills stem from her background in print and broadcast journalism. As a BBC Radio 4 producer, Liz mastered the art of explaining complex topics in ways which were engaging and accessible.
